Resumen 

Duetotheincrementalnatureofscientificdiscovery, scientificwritingrequiresextensivereferencingtothe writingsofothers.Theaccuracyofthisreferencing isvital,yeterrorsdooccur.Theseerrorsarecalled ‘quotationerrors’.Thispaperpresentsthefirst assessmentofquotationerrorsinhigh-impactgeneral sciencejournals.Atotalof250randomcitations wereexamined.Thepropositionsbeingcitedwere comparedwiththereferencedmaterialstoverify whetherthepropositionscouldbesubstantiatedby thosematerials.Thestudyfoundatotalerrorrateof 25%.Thisresulttrackswellwitherrorratesfoundin similarstudiesinotheracademicfields.Additionally, severalsuggestionsareofferedthatmayhelpto decreasetheseerrorsandmakesimilarstudiesmore feasibleinthefuture.
